The Church of Our Lady of Pompeii at Serola, located in San Donato Val di Comino, is a relatively recent place of worship, but one that encapsulates a history of faith and community engagement. Its construction in 1950 was strongly desired by Parish Priest Don Donato Pellegrini, who entrusted its design to Geom. Ettore Volante.
The construction of the church was an undertaking that actively involved the local community. In fact, a building site school for masons was set up, where the boys of the village had the opportunity to learn a trade while contributing to the construction of the sacred building. Funds for the construction of the work were raised through the generosity of the faithful, offerings from the Pope and a final contribution from the Ministry of the Interior - Worship Fund.
An element of special interest is the entrance threshold of the church, which belonged to the former Church of St. John. This architectural detail represents a link to the past and a testimony to the history of the place.
The Church of Our Lady of Pompeii at Serola, although of recent construction, is part of the rich historical and religious heritage of San Donato Val di Comino. Its construction, the result of the will of an enlightened parish priest and the commitment of the community, makes it a symbol of faith and cooperation.
